Take Control of Emotional Eating
For better or for worse, our moods definitely affect what we do and don’t eat. We all seem to be a little different when it comes to how mood impacts our eating habits. Stress sends some people to the refrigerator; for others, it kills their appetite. Nonetheless, knowing how your moods impact your eating is an important first step to conquering this Skinny saboteur.
To figure out how your mood affects your eating, keep a diary of your food intake and feelings. Most important, be 100 percent honest. For example, if you grab a scoop of seconds at dinner, write it down or if you eat five handfuls of potato chips, write it down. Don’t feel guilty! Awareness is what counts here. In addition to writing down what you ate, write down a few quick notes on your mood at the time—stressed out from a busy day at work, tired from a long day at the office, exhausted from chasing around your children, sad from a squabble with your boyfriend or husband. By being completely honest with yourself, you will be able to start to identify how emotions trigger eating patterns.
Once you know, you can create a plan to deal with it and curb your behaviors so your emotions don’t control your appetite. Try these tried-and-true Skinny ways to curb emotional eating:
